Why Nakhon Si Thammarat?

Nakhon Si Thammarat province is around 800 kilometres south of Bangkok and the commercial capital of the south. The city of Nakhon Si Thammarat is also home to Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, one of the most important temples for Thai Buddhists.

Nakhon Si Thammarat’s airport is in the process of being upgraded to an international airport however, in the meantime, there are some 15 or so domestic flights to and from Bangkok every day with a flight time ofd just over 1 hour.

Nakhon Si Thammarat is also becoming a major transfer hub to Koh Samui with the ferry services at Donsak about 1 hour’s drive from the airport (less from the beaches of Tha Sala – Sichon – Khanom).

The city is well served by shops and services with a new Central Department store and new hotels. All Government services are available in Nakhon Si Thammarat including immigration and the labour department.

The province has many kilometres of beautiful, almost deserted sandy beaches mainly between Tha Sala and Khanom. Inland there is are mountain ranges and National Parks with many waterfalls and places to escape the heat of the city or the coast.

The infrastructure is excellent with the main arterial road being the 401 which runs from Nakhon Si Thammarat to Surat Thani. There is also the main Asia Highway which runs from Bangkok to the Malaysian Border (over 200 km to the south).

The city has private hospitals and outside the city there are very good, recently rebuilt hospitals at Vachitawut Army Base, Tha Sala, Sichon and Khanom. There is also a new teaching hospital under construction at Walailak University in Tha Sala.

There are excellent schools and universities in Nakhon Si Thammarat and outside. Walailak University in Tha Sala is highly regarded and expanding with a new teaching hospital nearing completion.
